Meta (formerly Facebook) has filed eight new trademark applications for its logo related to cryptocurrencies and virtual assets. This was announced by profile lawyer Michael Kondousis.

Applications included, among others:

crypto tokens;
Blockchain software;
wallets, trading and exchanging virtual currencies.

Recently, brands have become more active in seeking trademark protection in the digital world, The Block noted. In the first three months of 2022, the number of relevant applications exceeded their number for all of 2021.

In February, fast food restaurant chain McDonald’s filed ten applications for trademark registration in the field of virtual assets and matuverses. In March, rival Burger King followed suit, patent attorney Josh Gerben pointed out.

Earlier in the comments, he noted that it is not always about the real plans of brands to start activities in a new area, but they prefer to protect their intellectual property there in order to avoid potential litigation.

Recall that the manufacturer of sportswear and shoes Nike filed a lawsuit against the online retailer StockX for the unauthorized sale of images of sneakers in the form of NFTs.
