Arms supplies to Ukraine are not conducive to a successful outcome of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations, Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian President, said on April 7.

This is how he commented on the news that the US Senate approved a bill that would allow the supply of weapons to Ukraine under the Lend-Lease program.

“Pumping up Ukraine with weapons in various formats is not conducive to success in Russian-Ukrainian negotiations. Of course, this will most likely have a negative effect, ”the Kremlin spokesman emphasized.

The corresponding decision of the US Senate became known earlier in the day. The document provides for the expansion of opportunities for US President Joe Biden to accelerate and simplify the provision of weapons to Kiev “to protect the population of Ukraine and for other purposes.” The bill will allow America to bypass bureaucratic obstacles, which will significantly speed up the delivery of weapons. Now the document must be approved by the House of Representatives, after which it will be sent to the president for signature.

On April 6, the first batch of 100 Switchblade loitering projectiles from the American company AeroVironment was sent to Ukraine. According to Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, American specialists trained the Ukrainian military, who arrived in the United States since autumn, to operate the Switchblade kamikaze drones.

On the same day, US President Joe Biden clarified that Washington cannot publicly announce every transfer of military equipment because American allies and partners are supplying Ukraine through the United States. At the same time, it was noted that every day Kiev receives a stream of advanced weapons and ammunition.

A day earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry called on the EU and NATO to stop pumping weapons to Ukraine. According to the official representative of the department, Maria Zakharova, in the first month and a half of 2022, almost 50 military transport aircraft from different countries landed in the country.

A call to the US authorities to stop the supply of weapons to Kiev on April 4 was also made at the Russian Embassy in Washington. The diplomatic mission emphasized that this provokes new victims, as the Kiev authorities are distributing American weapons to “radicals and yesterday’s criminals who have replenished the terrorist defense units.”

Western countries began to actively arm Ukraine against the backdrop of a special operation by Russia to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced on February 24. Moscow explained that the tasks of the special operation included demilitarization and denazification, the implementation of which is necessary to ensure the security of Russia. The decision was made against the background of aggravation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
