Hollywood actor Johnny Depp has been ordered to pay $2 million in compensation in a counterclaim from ex-wife Amber Heard. This became known on Wednesday, June 1.

Hollywood actor Johnny Depp has been ordered to pay $2 million in compensation in a counterclaim from ex-wife Amber Heard. This became known on Wednesday, June 1.

“I am more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. This is a failure. It brings back time to a time when a woman who dared to speak out could be publicly humiliated. It just dismisses the idea that violence against women should be taken seriously,” the actress said in a statement posted on Twitter.

Depp, who was not in court on Wednesday, sued Heard for libel over a December 2018 article in The Washington Post that described herself as a “famous survivor of domestic violence.” Depp’s lawyers said the article defamed the actor, although Depp’s name was never mentioned in it.

The jury found in Depp’s favor in all three of his lawsuits relating to statements in the 2018 article. In assessing Heard’s counterclaims, the jury considered three statements in which Depp’s lawyer called her claims a hoax. They found that one of them had slandered her. Then Depp’s lawyer claimed that Heard and her friends “missed a couple of glasses of wine and ransacked the house,” after which they called the police.

Depp, in a lengthy statement regarding the verdict, said the decision “gave my life back.”

“From the very beginning, the purpose of this case was to reveal the truth, regardless of the outcome. To tell the truth was what I owe to my children and to all who remained steadfast in their support of me. I feel at ease knowing that I have finally achieved this, ”The Hollywood Reporter quotes Depp as saying.

Earlier, on June 1, the jury announced the decision in the case of Depp and Heard in a courtroom in Fairfax, Virginia. The decision in favor of Depp was made on two counts, now Hurd must pay him compensation of $ 15 million. At the same time, on one count, the jury ruled in favor of Hurd.

Actor Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were married from 2015 to 2017. In 2016, the actress filed for divorce, and then accused Depp of “three days of torment with physical abuse.”

Depp denies violence against his wife and, in turn, declares that the actress herself raised her hand to him. In addition, the actor’s lawyers reported Hurd’s infidelity – she allegedly cheated on him with her colleague James Franco and businessman Elon Musk.
