Brad Pitt is suing Angelina Jolie, his ex-wife, for selling her share of the French vineyard they purchased together.

In 2008, the couple bought a controlling stake in Chateau Miraval and married there six years later.

Pitt claims that he and his ex-wife promised not to sell their holdings in the venue without the other’s agreement.

According to the lawsuit, Jolie sold her part to a spirits producer owned by a Russian oligarch. Jolie has yet to respond.

According to Pitt’s lawyers, Chateau Miraval, a residence and winery in the south of France, had “become Pitt’s passion” and had evolved into a “multimillion-dollar international success story” under his leadership.

Pitt aided in the profitability of the vineyard, which was “one of the world’s most highly acclaimed producers of rose wine,” according to legal filings filed in Los Angeles on Thursday.

He claimed Jolie sold her stake to a Luxembourg-based spirits producer operated by Russian businessman Yuri Shefler without his knowledge.

“She sold her shares knowing and intending that Shefler and his affiliates would endeavor to dominate the business to which Pitt had dedicated himself and to undermine Pitt’s investment in Miraval,” according to the lawsuit.

Pitt had “poured money and sweat equity into the wine business,” according to his lawyers, and the move was designed to inflict him “gratuitous harm.”

The couple reportedly paid roughly 25 million euros (£20.9 million) buy the Miraval estate in the village of Correns in south-east France.

Before marriage in 2014, Pitt and Jolie dated for ten years. In 2016, she filed for divorce.

According to the lawsuit, Jolie “advised Pitt in writing” of her plan to sell to Shefler in January 2021, stating that she had made a “sad decision, with a heavy heart.”

Pitt’s lawyers have asked for a jury trial. Jolie’s representatives have been approached by the BBC for comment.
